Tiger Woods Escapes Jail But Loses Licence for Five Years Over Florida Crash

Golf legend Tiger Woods has had his driving licence suspended for five years after reaching a plea agreement over a driving case stemming from a rollover crash in Florida.

Woods appeared before the Martin County Court in Stuart, Florida, on Wednesday and entered a no-contest plea to a reduced reckless driving charge.

The 50-year-old golfer had initially faced a more serious charge of driving under the influence with property damage following the crash on March 27.

The case was linked to an incident on Jupiter Island, where Woods’ vehicle overturned. The crash prompted an investigation and resulted in criminal charges against the 15-time major champion.

Under the plea agreement, the original DUI charge was dropped, with Woods instead accepting reduced charges relating to reckless and careless driving.

The court subsequently imposed a five-year suspension of Woods’ driving licence. The suspension means the former world No. 1 will be prohibited from legally driving during that period.

Woods also received financial penalties under the agreement but avoided a jail sentence.

The case had attracted significant attention because of Woods’ status as one of the most recognisable figures in international golf. His career has included 15 major championship victories and numerous records on the PGA Tour.

The March crash did not result in reported injuries. The resolution of the case now brings the legal proceedings arising from the incident to an end.
