Arteta defends Arsenal’s goal record as Zubimendi nears return, Hincapie remains sidelined

Mikel Arteta has defended Arsenal’s attacking output despite their limited return from set-pieces this season, insisting that goals carry the same value regardless of how they are scored.

“The value of the goals is exactly the same,” the Arsenal manager said ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal have scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, with 20 coming from open play, according to Arteta’s pre-match press conference.

The statistic marks a contrast with previous campaigns, when the Gunners became renowned for their effectiveness from corners and free-kicks under set-piece coach Nicolas Jover.

Arteta, however, believes his side must be capable of finding the net in different ways to make life more difficult for their opponents.

“The team is showing a great attacking flow. I think we have scored some beautiful goals,” he said.

“We have to be a team that is able to score in many, many ways and will make it harder for the opponent.”

Team news: Zubimendi could return

Arsenal have received encouraging news on Martin Zubimendi, who could be available for the visit to Nottingham Forest after making progress from an injury sustained last week.

Arteta said the midfielder was looking much better, adding that the club would assess his condition after another training session before deciding whether he could feature.

Defender Piero Hincapie is expected to remain unavailable, with the manager indicating that the Ecuadorian could need another week or two to recover.

Arteta also offered positive updates on William Saliba, saying the defender’s recovery signs had been encouraging ahead of a further assessment next week.

The Gunners travel to the City Ground on Sunday, October 18, looking to maintain their momentum after two strong performances and results in their previous matches.

Arteta expects a difficult contest against Nottingham Forest, describing the home side as well-coached and capable of building a strong atmosphere on their own ground.

Arsenal will be aiming to maintain their attacking threat while managing their injury concerns as the Premier League campaign continues.
