Fuji music fans have reopened a debate over some of the genre’s most memorable album titles, with Wasiu Alabi Pasuma’s Napoli Like Lagos and the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s Fuji Garbage emerging as leading contenders.
The discussion gained attention on X, where fans weighed the appeal, cultural significance and lasting popularity of the two titles, reflecting the way Fuji album names often become part of everyday conversations among listeners.
Pasuma’s Napoli Like Lagos, associated with a live recording from Naples, Italy, stands out for its unusual comparison between the Italian city and Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos. The title has remained memorable among fans, with its catchy phrase giving listeners something distinctive to recall long after the performance.
Supporters of the album argue that its international setting and the playful connection between Naples and Lagos give it a special place in Fuji music. The title also reflects the genre’s ability to carry Nigerian cultural references beyond the country while retaining the language and humour familiar to its audience.
Other fans insist that Barrister’s Fuji Garbage deserves the greater recognition. The late Fuji pioneer’s album has continued to attract admiration for its music, dance appeal and place in the history of the genre.
Adding his voice to the debate, Lagos State Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril A. Gawat, declared his preference for Fuji Garbage in a post on X.
“Nothing beats ‘FUJI GARBAGE’,” Gawat wrote, arguing that the track was so good that it was produced as a series and had a dance of its own. He added that even Fuji musicians would find it difficult to dispute his position.
Gawat’s comment adds a familiar dimension to the discussion, as fans continue to compare the classics that shaped their musical tastes and the titles that have remained part of the genre’s popular culture.
Other names mentioned in the conversation include Consolidation and Orobokibo, underscoring the depth of the catalogue fans draw from when debating Fuji music’s most memorable releases.
The argument also highlights a distinction between live recordings and studio albums, with listeners considering not only the music itself but also the circumstances surrounding its performance and release.
While Napoli Like Lagos appeals to fans who value its memorable title and international flavour, supporters of Fuji Garbage point to its musical impact, dance appeal and enduring reputation.
