A disagreement over the early morning Fajr prayer has ended in a 10-year prison sentence for Ayuba Sani Tumfafi, after a Kano State High Court found him guilty of killing his friend, Ibrahim Dan Larai.
Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, who delivered the judgment at High Court No. 1, sentenced Tumfafi after considering evidence presented by the prosecution during the trial.
The case arose from a dispute between the two friends over waking up for Fajr, the dawn prayer observed by Muslims before sunrise. The disagreement escalated into a fatal incident that led to Dan Larai’s death.
During the proceedings, prosecuting counsel Amina Uba Adamu called three witnesses and presented three exhibits in support of the case against the defendant.
Tumfafi also testified in his own defence as the court examined the evidence presented by both sides.
After reviewing the case, Justice Aboki found Tumfafi guilty and imposed a 10-year prison sentence, bringing the proceedings to a judgment.
The judge further directed the convict to pursue both Islamic and Western education while serving his sentence.
Tumfafi is to serve the 10-year term in a correctional centre following his conviction over the death of his friend.
