Tinubu seeks second term, promises economic recovery and prosperity at APC rally

President Bola Tinubu has asked Nigerians to renew his mandate in 2027, promising sustained economic recovery, prosperity and development as the All Progressives Congress launched its presidential campaign in Kaduna on Saturday.

Addressing party supporters at the campaign flag-off, Tinubu said another four years in office would allow his administration to consolidate ongoing reforms and continue development projects across the country.

The president thanked Nigerians for electing him in 2023 and appealed for their support in the next presidential election, presenting continuity as an opportunity to build on his administration’s economic and infrastructure agenda.

Tinubu also responded to criticism over hunger and poverty, which have remained major issues in the political debate ahead of the 2027 election.

He blamed previous administrations for creating the conditions behind the country’s economic difficulties, arguing that his government was working to address the problems.

The president cited regular salary payments, economic recovery and efforts to tackle corruption and fuel smuggling as areas of focus under his administration.

He urged eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate in the 2027 general election.

Minister of Works David Umahi used the rally to outline the federal government’s road construction activities in the North-west, highlighting projects that the administration hopes will demonstrate its infrastructure record.

Umahi said more than 348 kilometres of roads had been completed in the region, while another 1,800 kilometres had been partially completed.

He also provided an update on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road corridor, one of the major infrastructure projects linking the North-west with the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the minister, 81 kilometres of the first 118-kilometre section of the road were scheduled for commissioning at the event.

He said the first section had been completed in 13 months, while more than 144 kilometres of the second section, measuring 164 kilometres, had been completed.

The remaining 20 kilometres of the second section were expected to be completed by the end of November, Umahi said.

He added that Tinubu had directed the installation of solar streetlights along the 375-kilometre Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano corridor.

Umahi commended the president for providing funding for the projects and praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for his role in their implementation.

The minister also said the federal government’s ongoing road projects in the North-west covered 4,083 kilometres, compared with approximately 17,000 kilometres of federal road projects nationwide.

The rally also featured the presentation of campaign flags to the seven APC governorship candidates in the North-west, marking another step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election.

Tinubu’s campaign appeal places economic recovery and infrastructure delivery at the centre of the ruling party’s effort to secure another presidential mandate.

The president is seeking re-election after introducing major economic reforms during his first term, including the removal of petrol subsidies, while Nigerians continue to contend with the effects of rising living costs.
