Flamingos make history, beat Brazil 3-1 to reach first U-17 World Cup final

Nigeria’s Flamingos have booked their place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final for the first time in history after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in Tuesday’s semi-final encounter.

The Nigerian youngsters delivered a commanding second-half performance on November 4, 2026, to overcome their Brazilian counterparts and move within one victory of claiming the world title.

After a goalless first half, the Flamingos returned with renewed attacking intent and broke the deadlock in the 56th minute through Queen Joseph.

Nigeria continued to put pressure on Brazil, with their attacking efforts rewarded again in the 71st minute when Awawu Bashiru doubled the advantage.

Bashiru completed her brace in the 80th minute, extending Nigeria’s lead to 3-0 and putting the Flamingos firmly in control of the encounter.

Brazil managed to reduce the deficit through Greise Kelly in the 89th minute, but the late goal proved insufficient to stop Nigeria from securing a historic semi-final victory.

The result represents a major milestone for Nigerian women’s football, as the Flamingos advance to their first-ever final in the competition.

Their achievement also highlights the depth of emerging talent in the country and reinforces the need for greater investment in grassroots women’s football, youth development and opportunities for young female players.

Having overcome a traditionally strong Brazilian side, the Nigerian team will now shift its attention to Japan, their opponents in the final.

The Flamingos have already secured a place in the history books, but an even bigger opportunity awaits as they seek to convert their maiden final appearance into Nigeria’s first U-17 Women’s World Cup triumph.
