Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is closing in on a return to training after spending several weeks on the sidelines with a groin injury.

The Nigeria international is expected to resume individual training before the end of this week as he steps up his recovery, according to reports from Turkey.

Osimhen suffered the injury during Galatasaray’s Turkish Super Lig clash with Istanbul Başakşehir in September. The club subsequently confirmed that medical examinations detected a moderate-to-advanced strain, with bleeding, in the right adductor muscle group.

The injury has kept the 27-year-old forward out of several matches, including Galatasaray’s opening UEFA Champions League fixture against Sporting Lisbon.

He was also ruled out of Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau as he continued his rehabilitation. The Confederation of African Football confirmed that Osimhen was recovering from the muscle problem sustained while playing for Galatasaray.

Reports from Turkey indicate that Galatasaray are now preparing for his return after the international break, with the club expecting him to be available for the Super Lig meeting with Kasımpaşa on October 9.

Osimhen made an explosive start to the new campaign before the injury, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his first four league appearances for Galatasaray.

His return would provide another attacking option for coach Okan Buruk as Galatasaray enter an important phase of their domestic and European campaigns.

The club will, however, be expected to manage Osimhen’s comeback carefully after his extended spell out of action, with his individual training programme providing the next indication of his readiness for competitive football.
