Former Oyo State Attorney-General Adebayo Mutalubi Ojo has claimed that some politicians currently supporting Governor Seyi Makinde may eventually abandon him ahead of the 2027 election.
Ojo made the allegation while speaking on OpenForum360, a political podcast in Ibadan.
He said some politicians who publicly appear to support Makinde are allegedly waiting for the appropriate time to change their position.
According to him, the shift could become evident before December 2026, when he expects some of them to openly oppose Bimbo Adekanmbi.
Ojo identified Adekanmbi as Makinde’s preferred choice for the 2027 Oyo governorship election.
The former commissioner for justice said political supporters could change their allegiance as the election draws closer, adding that politics was not always a straightforward enterprise.
He said Makinde’s popularity remained his greatest political asset but argued that the governor’s political opponents could also become a challenge for his preferred successor.
Ojo described Adekanmbi as his friend and brother but maintained that some people around the political camp were not being completely honest about their intentions.
He also criticised what he described as the absence of open discussion of grievances among some political groups in the state.
Ojo’s comments are his political assessment of the situation and do not establish that the individuals he referred to will change their allegiance.
