Tricycle operators in Abia State have thrown their weight behind Governor Alex Otti\u2019s second-term bid, citing improved roads and reduced vehicle maintenance costs as reasons for supporting his re-election ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.

The operators, under the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union, Umuahia Zone, declared their support during a solidarity march to Government House in Umuahia on Friday.

Their endorsement gives Otti an opportunity to showcase road infrastructure as one of the gains of his administration, particularly among commercial transport workers whose daily earnings and operating expenses are directly affected by road conditions.

Speaking during the visit, the union\u2019s Umuahia Zone chairman, Chinweotito Godson Appolos, said road improvements had eased the difficulties operators faced when navigating damaged roads and paying for frequent vehicle repairs.

He said poor road conditions had previously increased maintenance expenses for tricycle operators, reducing the money they could take home from their daily business.

According to Appolos, the changes recorded under Otti\u2019s administration had helped address some of those challenges, prompting the union to declare its support for the governor\u2019s second-term ambition.

He also pledged the operators\u2019 support for other Labour Party candidates in the 2027 elections.

The endorsement comes as political attention shifts towards the next electoral cycle, with infrastructure delivery likely to feature prominently in discussions about the performance of state governments.

For commercial transport operators, road conditions are an immediate economic concern. Damaged roads can increase vehicle wear, repair bills and travel times, making road rehabilitation a significant issue for those who depend on daily transport income.

However, the endorsement represents the position of the union\u2019s leadership and does not, on its own, establish the level of support Otti commands among all tricycle operators in the state.

Otti urges voters to collect PVCs<\/strong>

Otti, represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, thanked the operators for their support and urged eligible residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor said his administration had made progress in addressing road infrastructure challenges that had previously generated complaints from residents and transport workers.

He urged voters to assess political leaders based on their performance and contributions to public welfare.

The governor also criticised politicians he accused of failing to deliver results while in office, urging residents to consider their records when making electoral choices.

The state Commissioner for Transport, Isaac Chimezie Ukaegbu, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Obi\u1ecdma Nwogbe, were among the government officials present at the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
