INEC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Voter Registration Portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has raised the alarm over a fraudulent website falsely claiming that the commission has opened a fresh nationwide online voter registration exercise.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, INEC said the website was circulating a false registration schedule, claiming that Nigerians could register between September 28 and October 27, 2026.

The commission identified the fake platform as pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com and stressed that it has no affiliation with INEC.

According to the electoral commission, the website presents itself as the “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration” and purports to provide several voter-related services.

These include updating voter registration information, transferring registration from one polling unit to another, and applying for the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The platform also claims that voter registration and PVC delivery are free, a claim INEC said should not be relied upon.

INEC urged Nigerians not to visit or interact with the fraudulent website, particularly warning members of the public against submitting personal information through the platform.

The commission warned that submitting personal details on the website could expose users to the risk of having their sensitive information harvested or misused.

INEC further clarified that the 2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ended on July 26, 2026.

It said any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently being conducted through the fraudulent website is false.

The commission advised Nigerians to be cautious of websites, social media posts and other online messages claiming to offer voter registration services, particularly where such platforms request personal information.

INEC urged members of the public to verify electoral information through its official communication channels before taking any action.

The commission also reminded Nigerians that its official voter portal should be used for legitimate voter-related services and information.

INEC urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links or submitting personal details to unofficial platforms claiming to offer voter registration or PVC-related services.
