Infantino Tells Ronaldo: ‘23 More’ As Portugal Star Chases 1,000 Goals

Gianni Infantino has highlighted Cristiano Ronaldo’s remaining journey to 1,000 career goals, telling the Portugal captain that he has 23 goals left to reach the landmark.

The FIFA president made the reference during a brief meeting with Ronaldo at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Esports World Cup in Paris.

Infantino asked Ronaldo about his progress before saying, “23 more, right?”

Ronaldo replied in the affirmative.

Infantino then wished him luck as the veteran striker continues his pursuit of the milestone.

Ronaldo’s current tally stands at 977 career goals. He reached that figure after scoring for Al-Nassr in their 4-0 victory over Al-Riyadh on August 21.

The latest goal came after Ronaldo returned to action following Portugal’s campaign at the 2026 World Cup.

At a stage of his career when many players have already retired, Ronaldo continues to produce goals and remain a central figure for both club and country.

His pursuit of 1,000 goals has consequently become one of football’s most closely watched individual milestones.

The remaining 23 goals could take time, but Ronaldo’s recent scoring record means the target remains within sight.

Infantino’s brief exchange also demonstrated the significance attached to the achievement, with the FIFA president personally acknowledging the forward’s progress towards the four-figure mark.
