Kano Police Pays ₦34.3m to 62 Families of Fallen Officers

The Kano State Police Command has disbursed ₦34.3 million under insurance arrangements covering police personnel and their families.

The Group Life Assurance Scheme payments were made to 62 families of officers who died in active service at a ceremony held at the command headquarters in Bompai.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori presented the cheques on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The exact amount distributed was ₦34,309,073.70.

The 62 payments went to families of deceased officers, while eligible police personnel involved in accidents are covered under the Group Personal Accident Scheme.

Bakori said the payments formed part of the Police Force’s welfare obligations to personnel and their families.

He said the financial assistance was not a replacement for the lives lost but was intended to help affected families manage their responsibilities.

The commissioner urged the families to use the money carefully, particularly on children’s education and family upkeep.

He said the Kano Command would continue to work towards timely processing and payment of legitimate benefits.

The disbursement follows a larger insurance settlement announced by the Nigeria Police Force earlier in September.

The Inspector-General had presented ₦2.317 billion under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

That exercise included outstanding balances from earlier insurance settlements as well as payments covering several policy years.

The Kano command has now delivered another batch of benefits to families of fallen personnel.

Safiya Abdullahi Adamu, speaking on behalf of the families, thanked the police authorities for the intervention.

She prayed for the deceased officers and wished injured personnel a speedy recovery.

The presentation was attended by members of the command management team, senior police officers and families of deceased personnel.
