Alhaji Abdul-Hameed Femi Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo, has called on the people of Ogun East to prioritise competence and measurable results when choosing their next senator, saying the district needs representation that can translate its potential into tangible development.

OmoOwo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Ogun East, made the call at a media parley organised by his campaign’s Media Directorate at OmoOwo Hall in Ijebu-Ode on Thursday.

“In Ogun East, we talk potentials, we want results. So we need to send people that are competent to do the job,” he said.

The engagement brought journalists and campaign stakeholders together to discuss the district’s development priorities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with youth unemployment, healthcare, education and economic opportunities featuring among the issues raised.

Drawing on his experience in the oil and gas industry, OmoOwo emphasised the need to equip young people with relevant skills and create pathways to employment. He also highlighted the importance of supporting local markets and small businesses to strengthen economic activity across the district.

The candidate’s remarks placed economic empowerment and effective representation at the centre of discussions about what Ogun East should expect as it decides its next senator.

Participants also examined the effects of fuel subsidy removal, oil exploration, the proposed Ijebu-Remo State, party unity and the constitutional responsibilities of a senator for a  district like Ogun East.

On legislative representation, the discussions covered lawmaking, oversight of government activities and constituency advocacy, including how elected representatives can engage relevant institutions to address the needs of their constituents.

Among those present were Engr. Ayinde Awobadejo, who represented the Ogun State PDP chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, and delivered his message; Architect Kayode Adebayo; Mr Femi Davies; Hon. Wale Ogunbanjo; and Hon. Wale Adedayo, a former chairman of Ijebu East Local Government. The Director-General of the OmoOwo for Senate campaign also attended.

Speaking through Awobadejo, Tella reaffirmed the party’s recognition of OmoOwo as its candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

The media parley also gave journalists present an opportunity to question the candidate on his policy priorities and approach to representing the district, which comprises communities across Ijebu, Remo and Ogun Waterside.

OmoOwo maintained that the value of senatorial representation should be judged by the issues pursued and the progress delivered for the people, stressing the need for leadership that moves beyond promises to practical outcomes.
