Social media critic VeryDarkMan has challenged Afrobeats star Davido to stay out of Nigerian politics, accusing the singer of hypocrisy after his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, emerged as a coordinator for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
In a strongly worded video, VeryDarkMan accused Davido of using his popularity and influence over fans to advance political interests, pointing to the contrast between the singer’s previous opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his uncle’s latest political alignment.
The confrontation followed Adeleke’s reported appointment as the Osun coordinator for Tinubu’s presidential campaign, a development that has revived questions about the relationship between the governor’s political decisions and Davido’s outspoken position on the ruling party.
VeryDarkMan argued that Davido’s earlier political messaging during the Osun governorship election deserved fresh scrutiny in light of his uncle’s new role.
The critic also questioned whether the singer had been fully transparent with supporters who backed Adeleke during the August 2026 election.
Davido had openly declared during the election period that he could never support the APC, using his social media platform to express his opposition to the party while supporting his uncle’s re-election bid.
Adeleke, however, has since taken a different political step by accepting a role in Tinubu’s re-election campaign despite winning another term as governor on the Accord Party platform.
The development has fuelled debate over political loyalty, celebrity influence and whether personal relationships should determine how public figures are judged politically.
At the centre of VeryDarkMan’s criticism is his claim that Davido’s political influence was used to shape public opinion during the Osun governorship election.
He alleged that the singer’s anti-APC statements helped mobilise support for Adeleke while concealing what he described as the governor’s longstanding political alignment with the ruling party.
VeryDarkMan further claimed that Davido knew about his uncle’s alleged political leanings but continued to present a different impression to supporters.
The controversy has nevertheless placed the singer’s previous statements back in the spotlight, particularly his emphatic declaration against supporting the APC.
Adeleke’s reported appointment has attracted attention because he secured re-election under the Accord Party after defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the August governorship election.
The governor has previously explained his support for Tinubu by referring to their shared South-West background and his desire to see federal infrastructure projects in the region completed.
His involvement in the president’s re-election campaign has now created an apparent contrast with Davido’s earlier position on the APC.
