The All Progressives Congress (APC) has presented its party flags to governorship candidates in the seven North-West states, formally endorsing the incumbent governors for another term ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The presentation took place on Saturday in Kaduna during the launch of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign, bringing together party leaders, governors, elected officials and supporters from across the country.
The candidates are Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda presented the flags, signalling the party’s backing for the seven governors as they prepare to seek fresh mandates in their respective states.
Yilwatda said the governors deserved another term, citing their records in office, development projects and efforts to improve the welfare of residents.
He urged party members and supporters across the region to unite behind the candidates and work towards the APC’s success in the 2027 elections.
The flag presentation formed part of the ruling party’s broader mobilisation drive ahead of the next general election, with the North-West remaining a significant political battleground because of its large voting population.
All seven states in the region are currently under APC control, a political position the party will seek to maintain as it prepares for the presidential and governorship contests.
The governors’ endorsement also places them at the centre of the APC’s efforts to consolidate its influence across Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The event was attended by Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, APC governors and other party stakeholders, as the ruling party formally stepped up its preparations for the 2027 electoral contest.
