The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, following a stabbing incident connected to a NANS convention in Osogbo.

The deceased, Ademiju Ayeni, was a student of the Department of Estate Management.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, there was a disagreement involving Ayeni and some individuals during the convention held at the state NUJ Press Centre.

The disagreement was later resolved, according to the police.

However, after the participants dispersed, Ayeni complained of chest pain.

A check reportedly revealed that the student had sustained a stab wound on his chest.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Osogbo, where medical personnel confirmed his death.

His remains were subsequently deposited at the morgue of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.

Ojelabi said the police were aware of the incident and that an autopsy would be conducted.

He did not confirm whether an arrest had been made in connection with the student’s death.

Sources who participated in the NANS convention alleged that Ayeni was stabbed by a member of the security committee while trying to gain access to the venue.

The NANS South-West Coordinator, Josiah Adeyemo, said reports reaching him indicated that the incident was cult-related.

Adeyemo also said the alleged perpetrator had not been identified.

The death occurred during the NANS Joint Campus Committee convention in Osogbo.
