Freedom 250 Race Brings Trump’s America Celebration To Finale

President Donald Trump is set to close the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations with the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, an IndyCar race through the streets of Washington, DC.

The event represents a major departure from traditional motor racing venues, with drivers competing on a temporary circuit surrounded by some of America’s most recognisable landmarks.

The 250-mile course will run through parts of central Washington, including Pennsylvania Avenue and areas near the National Mall and National Archives.

Trump will take part in a ceremonial lap before waving the green flag at the beginning of the race.

Organisers expect the event to draw about 200,000 spectators, while premium viewing areas have been offered at much higher prices.

The race is the latest in a series of major sporting events used to mark the anniversary during Trump’s presidency.

The celebrations have included other high-profile spectacles, including a UFC event on the White House lawn.

The Washington race has faced several logistical and political challenges.

An earlier plan to take the course through Capitol grounds was abandoned after concerns over congressional approval and restrictions on advertising in the area.

Trump instead issued an executive order allowing federal officials to develop an alternative route.

The event has resulted in extensive road closures and security measures, while aviation authorities plan to temporarily suspend operations at Reagan National Airport during a military flyover.

Drivers could reach speeds of around 185 mph on the circuit, turning Washington’s normally busy streets into a temporary IndyCar track.
