Kwara Expands Digital Education Across 70 Public Schools

Kwara State has launched a digital education programme targeting 70 public senior secondary schools across the state.

The initiative will distribute 1,755 all-in-one desktop computers as part of efforts to improve digital literacy among students and teachers.

Each participating school will receive 25 computers during the first phase, alongside a printer, projector and motorised projector screen.

The programme is being implemented under the AGILE project through the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the intervention reflected his administration’s commitment to using technology and investment in human capital to improve education.

He said students needed digital skills to take advantage of opportunities in the modern economy.

Education Commissioner Lawal Olohungbebe said the programme would help schools integrate technology into teaching while equipping students with skills in creativity, innovation and problem-solving.

In addition to the computers, the government has provided 10kVA solar power systems, internet connectivity and CCTV cameras for each of the 70 schools.

Three teachers from every beneficiary school have also been trained to support the use of the new technology.

The commissioner said digital literacy was now an essential component of quality education and confirmed that the intervention would continue.

He urged beneficiary schools and communities to take responsibility for protecting the equipment and ensuring that it remained available for educational purposes.

The initiative is expected to strengthen technology-based learning and improve students’ preparedness for further education and employment in the digital economy.
