Ogun APC Names Former NANS PRO Adeyemi Samson Students’ Affairs Chairman for 2027 Campaign

Former NANS PRO Adeyemi Samson has been appointed Chairman of Students’ Affairs in the Ogun APC’s 2027 Election Campaign Committee.

The appointment places the former national student leader in charge of a portfolio focused on one of the important constituencies in the state’s electoral landscape as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ogun has a sizeable tertiary education community, with universities, polytechnics and colleges spread across the state and thousands of students forming organised communities around the institutions.

The state also recorded 85,739 new voter registrations during the first phase of the 2025–26 Continuous Voter Registration exercise, according to figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Although the registration figures do not identify students separately, the number of new registrants highlights the continuing expansion of the electorate and the importance of engaging younger voters ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Students are also an organised constituency. Through student unions, campus associations and other representative bodies, they have established networks capable of influencing political conversations within and beyond tertiary institutions.

Their growing presence on social media has further increased their ability to shape public discourse, making student and youth engagement an increasingly important part of political campaigns.

Samson brings direct experience of student leadership to his new assignment.

A graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, he served as General Secretary of the NANS Ogun Joint Campus Committee before rising to become Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Nigerian Students.

His progression from the Ogun-based student structure to the national leadership of NANS gave him experience across different levels of student representation.

That background now forms part of his new responsibility within the APC’s campaign structure.

The Students’ Affairs portfolio gives the former NANS PRO a defined role in the party’s engagement with students and young voters as the 2027 elections approach.

Such engagement for political parties extends beyond seeking votes on election day. Issues around education, employment, economic opportunities and the transition from school into the labour market can influence how younger voters respond to political campaigns.

Tertiary institutions also provide concentrated communities through which political messages can spread quickly, particularly when combined with digital platforms and existing student networks.

The APC’s decision to assign the portfolio to a former national student leader therefore gives its campaign structure an official point of engagement with the students constituency.

The appointment marks a move from organised student leadership into mainstream electoral politics for Samson, after years of involvement in student representation at both state and national levels.

His background at Olabisi Onabanjo University and within the NANS Ogun Joint Campus Committee also gives the appointment a strong grassroots connection, having developed his student leadership experience within the state before taking on a national role.

As the 2027 electoral cycle approaches, the ability of political parties to engage students and younger voters could become an important part of the wider mobilisation battle in Ogun.

Samson will now bring his experience from the student movement into the Ogun APC’s campaign machinery, with responsibility for building engagement around a constituency likely to attract increasing political attention ahead of 2027.
