Paris Court Jails Donnarumma Robbery Mastermind for Nine Years

Two people have been sentenced over the violent robbery of Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner, Alessia Elefante, at their Paris home, while proceedings involving other suspects continue.

The incident occurred in 2023, when Donnarumma was playing for Paris Saint-Germain.

The couple were asleep at their apartment on Avenue Montaigne when a group of robbers entered the property.

The attackers reportedly assaulted the couple, restrained them and threatened them with a knife before demanding valuable possessions.

Donnarumma was hit in the face with a knuckle duster, while Elefante was physically attacked despite being pregnant at the time. 

The robbers took watches, jewellery, cash and luxury handbags.

They also stole keys to expensive vehicles, adding to the value of the property taken during the raid.

Investigators believe the attackers used a ladder to reach the building before entering through the apartment’s balcony. 

Two people who were under 18 when the robbery occurred have already been convicted and sentenced to three and four years in prison.

The adult proceedings involve several other defendants.

Moktar Diop has admitted participating in the burglary but is not accused of using violence.

Ilyas Kherbouch and Khyan Mamouni are accused of organising the robbery from prison cells.

Both men have denied the accusations.

Kherbouch was already serving a sentence for another robbery and had accumulated multiple previous convictions.

He later escaped from prison before being recaptured.

A fourth suspect who had admitted involvement died by suicide in custody in 2024.

The case has attracted attention because it involved a high-profile footballer and occurred in one of Paris’s most prestigious residential areas.

It has also highlighted a recurring security problem involving professional footballers whose homes can become targets for criminals seeking luxury goods.

Donnarumma has since left PSG and joined Manchester City.

He and Elefante have also since married.

The latest proceedings are expected to determine the legal responsibility of the remaining defendants and establish their respective roles in the robbery.

The case remains a reminder of the vulnerability of high-profile athletes away from stadiums, particularly when criminals target their private residences.

The court’s eventual decisions will determine the next chapter in a case that began with a violent home invasion more than three years ago.
