Osun Motor Park Crisis: Adeleke Orders Probe Into Ajagungbade Killing

A motor park leadership dispute in Ile-Ife has escalated into a deadly confrontation, leaving Accord Party chieftain Olalekan Ajagungbade, popularly known as Emir, dead.

Ajagungbade was reportedly shot during a clash at Mayfair on Sunday.

According to a security source, the confrontation involved Ajagungbade and members of his group and a rival group over control of the motor park.

The killing subsequently triggered further clashes in parts of Ile-Ife.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered a full investigation into the incident and directed the immediate arrest of those involved.

He also instructed the warring groups to leave motor parks and ordered the establishment of a Park Management System.

The governor’s directives were aimed at preventing another round of violence while the authorities investigate the killing.

Security agencies were also directed to restore normalcy across affected areas.

The police have confirmed that an investigation is underway.

According to the Osun State Police Command, officers were deployed after receiving information about an accident near an energy filling station in Ile-Ife.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Ajagungbade had suffered a gunshot injury.

Police investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura condemned the incident and warned residents against reprisal attacks.

He said members of the public must not take the law into their own hands or engage in destruction of property.

The incident has also raised security concerns beyond Ile-Ife, with reports of gunshots in parts of Osogbo following the killing.

Residents in affected areas were reportedly advised to remain cautious amid the tension.

The government’s decision to establish a Park Management System represents a major part of its response to the dispute.

The new arrangement is expected to provide a structured approach to motor park administration and reduce conflicts between rival groups.

The police probe will now determine how the Mayfair confrontation turned fatal and who bears responsibility for the killing. Authorities are also under pressure to prevent the dispute from triggering further violence, with heightened security expected across Ile-Ife and other vulnerable areas of Osun State.
