Delta monarchs honour Uduaghan’s legacy of peace, ethnic unity

The Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers has paid tribute to former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, crediting him with promoting peaceful coexistence among the state’s ethnic groups and strengthening relations between the government and traditional institutions.

In a condolence message dated October 21, 2026, the council expressed shock over Uduaghan’s death and extended its sympathies to his family in Abigborodo, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the people of Delta State.

The message was signed by the council’s chairman, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Orhue I.

The monarchs described Uduaghan as a detribalised leader who regarded Delta State as one indivisible family, irrespective of ethnic differences.

They recalled his cordial relationship with traditional rulers during his eight-year administration from 2007 to 2015, saying he prioritised their welfare and contributed to human capital development, infrastructure and peacebuilding across the state.

The council also highlighted the former governor’s efforts to address the Warri crisis, which he inherited from his predecessor, former Governor James Ibori.

According to the traditional rulers, Uduaghan worked towards establishing lasting peace among the three ethnic groups involved in the conflict, reflecting his commitment to dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

They said his approach to governance helped foster relationships across ethnic boundaries in a state with diverse communities and interests.

The council further acknowledged his contributions to the traditional institution, noting that his support for traditional rulers remained an important part of his record in office.

The monarchs prayed for the peaceful repose of Uduaghan’s soul and asked God to comfort his wife, children, extended family, the Delta State Government and all those mourning him.
