2027 Presidency: Jibrin Backs Tinubu to Win Kano

ABUJA — A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can defeat former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano State in the 2027 presidential election.

Jibrin, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said the political dynamics ahead of the 2027 election would be significantly different from those of the 2023 presidential contest.

The lawmaker, who previously worked closely with Kwankwaso, said his experience within the former governor’s political camp has given him a detailed understanding of the Kwankwasiyya movement, its structure and political strategies.

According to Jibrin, this experience could help the APC develop an effective strategy to challenge Kwankwaso’s influence in Kano.

Jibrin points to changing political dynamics

Jibrin also highlighted the expected difference in Kwankwaso’s role in the 2027 election.

In 2023, Kwankwaso contested the presidency as the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and secured a significant victory in Kano State.

Tinubu, who contested on the APC platform, finished behind Kwankwaso in the state.

However, Jibrin argued that the political configuration has changed ahead of the next presidential election.

He maintained that former associates and members of Kwankwaso’s political structure who are now aligned with the APC understand the movement’s strengths and weaknesses and are better positioned to challenge it.

Kano remains key to 2027 race

Kano is expected to remain one of the most closely watched states in the 2027 presidential election because of its large electorate and significant influence on national politics.

Kwankwaso has maintained a strong political base in the state, while the APC is expected to intensify its mobilisation efforts ahead of the election.

Jibrin, however, believes these factors will not prevent Tinubu from making significant gains in Kano.

His comments come as political parties and prominent politicians continue to position themselves for the 2027 presidential contest.

The former Kwankwaso ally’s prediction is likely to add to the growing political debate over whether the APC can overturn the result of the 2023 presidential election in Kano.
