Veteran Nigerian actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after battling cancer, according to reports.

The actor, aged 66, died on Sunday after his health deteriorated in recent weeks, marking a major loss for Nigeria’s Yoruba film industry.

His daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced the death during an emotional live broadcast, according to reports from Nigerian media outlets.

The news came shortly after Hassan’s family disclosed that the actor had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer.

His daughters had appealed publicly for medical assistance, asking for help in finding suitable medical professionals and treatment options for their father.

The family’s appeal had attracted widespread attention, with fans, colleagues and well-wishers expressing concern about the actor’s condition.

Hassan was a prominent figure in Yoruba-language Nollywood and was known for his appearances in numerous Nigerian films throughout his long career.

He became one of the familiar faces of the industry and was recognised by audiences for his work as an actor and filmmaker.

His death has prompted mourning across the entertainment sector, with tributes expected from colleagues and admirers who followed his career over several decades.

The development also comes after an earlier death rumour was rejected by his family. Just days ago, the family had said reports of his death were false as the actor continued to battle his illness.

More information on his funeral arrangements is expected to be released by his family.
