João Pedro has been rewarded for a productive opening month at Chelsea after being named the Premier League Player of the Month for August.
The Chelsea forward finished the month with two goals and two assists, making a direct contribution to four goals during the early stages of the new Premier League season.
His performances have come during his first campaign wearing Chelsea’s No. 9 shirt.
The club gave João Pedro the number before the start of the season after he had previously worn 20. The decision followed his recognition as Chelsea’s Player of the Year for the previous campaign.
He has quickly demonstrated why the club increased his responsibility.
João Pedro scored against Fulham almost immediately after kick-off and later supplied an assist for Palmer. He was again involved against Brighton, scoring during Chelsea’s 4-3 win.
Those performances put him among the leading contenders for the August award and eventually saw him selected as the month’s outstanding player.
The honour adds to a strong period for João Pedro since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
He joined Chelsea from Brighton and played a major role during the Club World Cup, scoring twice against Fluminense in the semi-final and adding another goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
His transition into the new Premier League season has therefore been seamless in terms of attacking production.
Chelsea’s supporters also backed him during August, voting him the club’s Player of the Month by a wide margin.
The forward’s form has also brought him back into contention with Brazil.
João Pedro was not involved in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign after missing selection for the tournament. Following the competition, however, Ancelotti recalled him to the national team as Brazil began preparing for its next international cycle.
The recall gives João Pedro another opportunity to compete for a regular role at international level.
At Chelsea, meanwhile, his early performances have already delivered one of the strongest individual starts to the new Premier League campaign.
Winning the August award gives the 23-year-old further recognition after his change to the No. 9 shirt and his influential start at Stamford Bridge.
