NGIJ Election: Owodunni Chairs Electoral Committee

The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) is set to elect a new leadership as the Electoral Committee, chaired by the publisher of Readership NG, Lateef Owodunni, has released the timetable for the 2026 election.

The election is expected to usher in a new phase for the guild and provide members with an opportunity to determine its direction and priorities in the coming years.

The sale of nomination forms closed on Thursday, September 10, 2026, paving the way for the commencement of campaigns.

According to the timetable, campaigns will run from Friday, September 11 to September 25. Candidates will present their manifestos on September 27, while voters’ accreditation is scheduled for September 28.

The election will hold on September 30, when eligible members will cast their votes to elect the guild’s next leadership.

The Electoral Committee is chaired by Lateef Owodunni, while Obadimu Abiodun Adeyemi, popularly known as Veron and publisher of NewsExtra, serves as Secretary. Akinwale Kasali, publisher of Ramira News, is also a member of the committee.

The committee is responsible for overseeing the electoral process and ensuring that all stages are conducted in accordance with the approved timetable.

With campaigns set to begin, attention will now shift to the candidates, their programmes and their vision for the guild.

The election comes at a time when credible, professional and impactful investigative journalism remains vital to strengthening accountability and public interest reporting in Nigeria.
