OmoOwo Anchors PDP’s Joint Campaign Across Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu

The Peoples Democratic Party has taken its Ogun East campaign deeper into Ijebuland, with the party’s senatorial candidate, Abdulhameed Femi Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo, campaigning alongside governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu and other PDP candidates in Ijebu Ode and Odogbolu.

The campaign appearances brought together candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Ogun State House of Assembly as the party continues its preparations for the 2027 general election.

Adebutu had earlier presented OmoOwo as the PDP’s Ogun East senatorial candidate alongside Wale Ogunbanjo, the party’s candidate for the federal constituency covering Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu and Ijebu North-East.

Ogunbanjo, a former member of the House of Representatives, represented the constituency between 2003 and 2007. At the flag-off of his campaign in Ijebu Ode, he promised to pursue additional development projects if returned to the National Assembly.

He cited nine motorised boreholes across the three local government areas, the reconstruction of Okun-Owa Town Hall, a rural telephony project at Itamapako, bursaries and scholarships, and renovation work at the female ward of the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode as projects from his previous tenure.

Ogunbanjo also told constituents that no indigene of Ijebu Ode had represented the federal constituency in the House since he left the chamber almost two decades ago.

OmoOwo, meanwhile, is campaigning for the Senate seat covering the wider Ogun East district, which comprises nine local government areas.

He emerged as the PDP’s candidate after the party’s senatorial primary in Ijebu Ode in May. He has subsequently taken his campaign to communities across the district, meeting traditional rulers, community leaders, party members and other groups.

OmoOwo has made accessibility and direct engagement with constituents central to his campaign, including a proposal for constituency offices across Ogun East. He has also repeatedly highlighted his Ijebu background, saying he was born and raised in Ijebu and has deep family roots in the area.

The PDP’s Ogun East campaign was formally flagged off in August with events in Sagamu, Ijebu-Igbo and Ijebu Ode. At the Ijebu Ode rally, OmoOwo spoke about infrastructure and representation across the nine local government areas, while Adebutu attacked the APC-led state government over roads, hospitals and traditional institutions.

Adebutu has continued to raise the vacant Awujale stool during his engagements in Ijebuland. At the Ijebu Ode campaign flag-off, he questioned the delay in selecting a successor to the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, and also referred to the vacant Alaye of Odogbolu stool.

The PDP’s campaign activities have since brought the party’s candidates together at different points while each candidate continues to pursue the contest for the office attached to their ticket.

OmoOwo is campaigning across Ogun East, while Ogunbanjo is taking his House of Representatives campaign through Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu and Ijebu North-East. Adebutu is campaigning across Ogun State for the governorship, with the three campaigns intersecting at party events in Ijebuland.

The party’s candidates are expected to continue with community meetings, stakeholder engagements and campaign activities across their respective constituencies in the months leading to the 2027 election.
