Police Recover 300 Rounds of Ammunition in Kaduna Arms Operation

The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the recovery of 300 rounds of live ammunition during an operation targeting a suspected arms-trafficking network.

According to the command, the operation was conducted by detectives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after security personnel received intelligence concerning a suspected syndicate operating around Giwa Local Government Area and the railway station axis of Kaduna.

The detectives reportedly conducted surveillance before moving against the suspects. Two individuals were arrested during the operation.

Police said the recovered ammunition comprised 270 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 30 rounds of Type 06 ammunition.

The discovery has become one of the major outcomes of the Kaduna Command’s latest series of security operations. Authorities said investigations are now focused on establishing where the ammunition came from and where it was allegedly intended to be taken.

Investigators are also working to determine whether other people are connected to the suspected trafficking network.

The command did not disclose the identities of the two suspects arrested in connection with the ammunition recovery.

Police said the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.

The operation came shortly after another security incident in Makarfi Local Government Area, where police and local vigilantes responded to an alleged attack by suspected bandits. One suspect was arrested during that encounter.

Another suspect was also arrested in Gwantu after police allegedly tracked him over accusations of intimidating residents while carrying a locally fabricated firearm.

The separate operations resulted in four arrests and the recovery of three locally made firearms in addition to the 300 rounds of ammunition.

Kaduna Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu commended the operatives for their actions and directed them to intensify efforts to arrest fleeing suspects.

The command also called on members of the public to provide credible information that could help security agencies identify criminal activities and prevent attacks.
