UK Releases Full List of Jobs Eligible for Skilled Worker Visa

The United Kingdom has published its current list of occupations eligible for the Skilled Worker visa, giving international workers a clearer view of the jobs that can qualify under the country’s sponsored work route.

The occupation list is based on the UK’s Standard Occupational Classification system and identifies jobs according to their skill level and immigration eligibility.

The Home Office categorises occupations as higher skilled, medium skilled or ineligible. Applicants are expected to identify the occupation code that corresponds with the actual duties of the job before beginning the visa application process.

Among the higher-skilled occupations included on the list are chief executives and senior officials, production managers and directors, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, electronics engineers, aerospace engineers and production and process engineers.

The healthcare sector also features prominently. Eligible roles include registered nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, optometrists, dental practitioners, medical radiographers, paramedics and podiatrists.

Some agricultural and technical occupations also appear on the list. These include farmers, horticultural trades, welders, pipe fitters, tool makers and metal-working production and maintenance fitters.

The Home Office has also identified selected medium-skilled roles, including nursing auxiliaries and assistants, ambulance staff excluding paramedics, dental nurses, care workers, home carers and senior care workers.

However, being listed as an eligible occupation does not by itself guarantee a visa.

Applicants must have a job offer from a UK employer that is approved by the Home Office to sponsor Skilled Worker migrants. They must also satisfy the applicable salary and other immigration requirements.

The current rules provide a standard salary threshold of £41,700 a year or the occupation’s applicable going rate, whichever is higher, although different salary arrangements can apply in specified circumstances.

Medium-skilled occupations can face additional restrictions. Some must be included on the Immigration Salary List or Temporary Shortage List and meet the conditions attached to those routes.

The Home Office advises applicants not to rely solely on job titles because different roles can fall under different occupation codes. The duties performed in the proposed job are important when determining the correct classification.

The updated list is an important reference for overseas workers considering employment opportunities in the UK.
