APC 2027 Campaign: Ndume Challenges Tinubu’s Role, Calls for Party Chairman to Lead

ABUJA — Senator Ali Ndume has said the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress should lead President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign rather than the President himself.

Ndume said the arrangement would allow the ruling party to take greater responsibility for presenting its candidate and policies to Nigerian voters.

The former Senate leader made the comments during an interview on Arise Television.

He said he disagreed with the decision to make Tinubu chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, arguing that the party should be responsible for coordinating the campaign.

“The owner of a product should be the one selling the product, not the product selling itself,” Ndume said.

He suggested that governors should head the presidential campaign in their individual states, while a national coordinating team would oversee the overall effort.

The APC recently unveiled its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, with Tinubu as chairman, Shettima as vice chairman and Abdulaziz Yari as director-general.

Ndume also questioned whether the President was fully aware of the process that led to the council’s composition, citing complaints that followed its announcement.

The senator said his concerns extended beyond the campaign council to the performance of some officials within the Presidency.

He accused some presidential aides of concentrating on personalities and attacking critics instead of responding to concerns about government policies.

Ndume also urged the opposition to focus on policy and present Nigerians with credible alternatives ahead of the 2027 election.

He said political parties should convince voters through their programmes rather than relying on personal attacks.
