Buhari Administration Was ‘Immoral and Corrupt’, Says Datti Baba-Ahmed

Datti Baba-Ahmed has reignited debate over the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing his administration of unprecedented corruption.

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks while appearing on MIC On Podcast With Seun Okinbaloye.

The discussion focused partly on President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market.

Baba-Ahmed argued that the success of such policies depends on whether government can prevent corruption from undermining implementation.

He said this was one of the major problems he believed affected the Buhari administration.

According to Baba-Ahmed, corruption was responsible for Buhari’s failure to deliver what Nigerians expected from his government.

He described the former administration as the most corrupt government Nigeria had experienced.

The former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate also revisited the 2023 presidential election.

He said Buhari had promised a free and credible election but questioned the process that followed.

Baba-Ahmed raised concerns over the electronic transmission of results and the subsequent collation process.

The 2023 election remains a major point of political debate in Nigeria, with the outcome having been challenged by opposition candidates and parties.

Baba-Ahmed was Peter Obi’s running mate on the Labour Party ticket during the election.

His latest remarks therefore add another layer to the continuing debate over the performance of the Buhari administration and the political developments that followed its departure from office.

Baba-Ahmed also warned that current economic reforms could face similar difficulties if corruption remains a major obstacle to effective governance.
