Kaduna’s N6.7bn Monthly Debt Repayment to Continue Until 2048 – Uba Sani

A substantial share of Kaduna State’s monthly federal allocation is being used to service loans inherited by the current administration, Governor Uba Sani has disclosed.

Sani said N6.7bn is paid every month from the state’s Federation Account Allocation Committee revenue toward the inherited debt.

The governor made the statement during an interview with Channels Television on Thursday.

He said the repayment obligation will continue until 2048, meaning the debt will remain a long-term consideration for successive administrations.

Sani said the figures were available through the Debt Management Office and could be verified.

The governor also sought to distinguish the inherited obligations from new borrowing by his administration.

According to him, Kaduna has not taken a new loan since he became governor.

The state’s financial position, he said, requires careful management of available resources, particularly when deciding which areas should receive government investment.

Sani said his administration’s approach was based on prudence and the use of data in making financial decisions.

The revelation provides an indication of the scale of Kaduna’s inherited debt obligations and the pressure they continue to place on the state’s recurring revenue.

With repayments projected to run until 2048, the debt burden is expected to remain relevant to Kaduna’s fiscal planning for years to come.
