The Federal Government is investigating an estimated N120 billion energy discrepancy along the Ikorodu-Sagamu industrial corridor.
The investigation follows the detection of electricity flow and consumption discrepancies of up to 100MW on the 132kV corridor.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator identified the unusual patterns through technology-based monitoring systems that have been enhanced since 2024.
Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe directed stakeholders to establish the facts through a transparent and science-based process.
The government said the investigation would determine whether the discrepancies were caused by technical problems, operational issues, metering challenges or other factors.
Tegbe warned against electricity theft, meter tampering, manipulation of energy data and interference with electricity infrastructure.
He said every electricity consumer should be accountable for actual power consumed.
NISO said the matter goes beyond a routine technical issue because of its implications for power system security, electricity measurement and the financial stability of the electricity market.
The investigation will involve checks on metering systems, industrial substations and other relevant electricity infrastructure.
