Back-to-School Security: Ogun Police Deploy Special Squad to Protect Pupils, Teachers

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security around educational institutions as pupils and teachers return to schools across the state.

A dedicated School Protection Squad has been deployed as part of efforts to strengthen police visibility, improve intelligence gathering and provide rapid response to security concerns around schools.

The command said the deployment is part of its broader preventive policing strategy and is intended to reduce the risk of security incidents by identifying potential threats early.

The return of academic activities has brought renewed attention to the safety of schools, particularly as pupils, teachers and other staff begin moving through school communities again.

The police said the protection operation would involve closer interaction with school authorities and communities.

The command has been working with the Police Community Relations Committee Safe School Club to improve cooperation between security personnel and stakeholders within the education sector.

The partnership is designed to ensure that information about potential threats can reach police authorities without unnecessary delays.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has directed officers assigned to the School Protection Squad to remain alert and maintain contact with the school communities they serve.

Police personnel are expected to monitor developments around schools and act on credible information received from members of the public.

The command has consequently urged parents and guardians to take an active role in the security of their children.

Teachers, school administrators and proprietors have also been encouraged to report unusual developments and maintain communication with the police.

The command stressed that suspicious activity should not be ignored simply because it has not yet resulted in an incident.

Residents living around schools were similarly encouraged to pay attention to unusual movements and promptly alert the relevant security authorities.

The police described public information as an important component of preventive security.

The message “SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING” was therefore reiterated as the command urged members of the public to share information that could help prevent threats.

The police also assured residents that the School Protection Squad would remain prepared to respond to emergencies and security concerns around schools.

The Ogun initiative comes at a time when school security remains a major concern for families and education stakeholders across Nigeria.
