Yobe Police Investigate Alleged ₦74m Moniepoint Fraud, Arrest Loan Officer

Police authorities in Yobe State have arrested a Moniepoint Field Loan Officer, Thlakham Daniel, over an alleged ₦74 million fraud.

Daniel, 32, was identified in the report as a Field Loan Officer with Moniepoint.

His arrest was made by the Yobe State Police Command as authorities investigate the allegation involving the substantial sum of money.

The reported amount at the centre of the case is ₦74 million.

Details of the alleged fraud are subject to the ongoing investigation, with police expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the financial transactions involved.

The investigation is also expected to determine whether the alleged activities were carried out by the suspect alone or whether other people were involved.

Daniel’s position at Moniepoint is relevant to the investigation because Field Loan Officers are involved in the company’s credit-related activities.

Moniepoint describes field credit roles as involving activities such as working with businesses seeking credit, assessing businesses, reviewing loan requests and monitoring loan portfolios.

However, his professional responsibilities should not be interpreted as evidence that he committed the alleged offence.

The police arrest is part of the investigative process.

Daniel has not been convicted of fraud, and the allegation remains unproven unless established in accordance with Nigerian law.

The reported ₦74 million involved in the case makes it a major financial allegation.

Large-value fraud investigations typically require authorities to establish the movement of funds and determine the individuals responsible for particular transactions.

Investigators may therefore examine relevant records and obtain information from parties connected to the alleged transactions.

The police will also have to determine whether the evidence gathered is sufficient to support any criminal charges.

The development highlights the importance of internal controls and accountability in financial services, particularly in areas involving lending and the management of customer funds.

Moniepoint operates financial services for businesses and individuals across Nigeria, including payments, banking and credit-related services.

The company has official channels through which customers can report suspected fraudulent activity.

The current investigation, however, concerns the specific allegations involving Daniel and the reported ₦74 million.

No conclusion should be drawn about the suspect’s guilt at this stage.

In criminal matters, an allegation must be supported by evidence and established through due legal process.

The Yobe State Police Command is expected to continue its investigation before determining the next step in the case.

Further information may become available as the authorities make progress with the inquiry.
