New York Times Square Stabbing: Woman Kills One, Injures Another Before Police Shoot Her

A woman allegedly stabbed two people in New York City’s Times Square on Monday, killing one and injuring another before police officers fatally shot her, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. near 41st Street and Seventh Avenue, one of the busiest areas in Manhattan.

According to New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the 49-year-old suspect allegedly pulled two knives from a bag and attacked a 68-year-old man who had just exited a subway station.

The man was stabbed in the abdomen but survived and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The suspect then moved towards 42nd Street, where she allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old woman in the abdomen. The woman was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries.

Police officers subsequently confronted the suspect near an NYPD substation. Authorities said officers repeatedly ordered her to drop the knives, but she refused.

Officers deployed Tasers, but they were ineffective. Two officers then fired their service weapons, fatally wounding the woman.

Authorities said the two stabbing attacks appeared to be random and unprovoked. Police also said there was no indication that the incident was terrorism-related.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
