Dangote Refinery IPO: ₦5,250 Could Make You a Shareholder

A minimum of ₦5,250 could be enough for Nigerians to participate in the proposed Initial Public Offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE.

The company has set the offer price at ₦525 per share, with investors required to subscribe for at least 10 ordinary shares.

The proposed IPO comprises 4.1 billion shares and is targeting approximately ₦2.15 trillion in fresh capital.

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, announced the details during the signing ceremony for the offer in Lagos.

He said the decision to set a low minimum subscription was intended to broaden participation and allow ordinary Nigerians to become shareholders.

The proposed IPO is expected to finance expansion of the refinery and support its next phase of development.

The Securities and Exchange Commission approved the proposed offer on September 5.

The development is expected to move the refinery closer to a public listing on the Nigerian Exchange.

The proposed public offering comes as the refinery continues to expand its operations.

The facility has become an important source of refined petroleum products in Nigeria and has also expanded exports to other African markets.

The company has previously raised significant capital through private arrangements.

In July, it secured $2.5 billion through a private placement, while an additional $1 billion underwriting programme was announced in August.

The new IPO is intended to widen access to ownership while raising funds for expansion.

For Nigerians, the minimum subscription of ₦5,250 makes the offer potentially accessible to small retail investors.

However, prospective shareholders should distinguish between the minimum subscription and the amount they may ultimately choose to invest.

They should also review the official offer documents and understand the risks associated with investing in equities before subscribing.

The proposed IPO is nevertheless set to become one of the most closely watched corporate share offerings in Nigeria, given the size and strategic importance of the refinery.
